What is Biotechnology?

Many people think that biotechnology only involves genetic research. However, the field of biotechnology is actually much more broad. Biotechnology is the branch of technology that utilizes living organisms or biological systems to modify humans and the environment.

What advantage to humanity do biotechnological processes produce? These processes allow our drugs and foods to become genetically altered to increase their effectiveness. Fewer side effects occur because knowledge of the human genome allows us to design drugs specifically to suit individual needs.
